MCU battery chargers deliver a powerful charge for today's modern batteries; in particular deep cycle, sealed and calcium batteries. It is a fact that more batteries fail due to under charging than over charging. Deep cycle batteries with their thicker plates perform better and last longer when charged using a 3 stage charging process.
c’Logix The MCU (Micro Controlled Unit) uses advanced c'Logix technology to deliver a 3 stage, automatic charge that is faster and more powerful than traditional chargers. The stages are referred to as bulk charge, absorption and float. The first stage, Bulk Charge is a constant current output that returns the battery to 80% charge capacity. Compared to a traditional battery charger where the current output tapers off, the constant current charge means that the battery will be charged quicker. Once the battery reaches the 14.5V just below the gassing Voltage where batteries start to bubble, it changes to the second stage, Absorption. At this point in the charging process traditional battery chargers show the battery as being fully charged. However, the Absorption stage continues to put power into the battery without the battery starting to bubble resulting in a battery at 100% charge capacity. This is achieved by maintaining the battery Voltage at 14.5V. As the battery continues to charge, the battery charger’s output current tapers off. Finally, when the battery charger cannot supply any more power to the battery, it begins the maintenance stage, called Float. At this level the battery is trickle charged at 13.5V so that it will remain fully charged and ready for use. Recovery Plus The Recovery Plus feature gives sulphated batteries a high voltage charge to return them back into service. Batteries that have been heavily discharged or have been left unattended for long periods become sulphated. Sulphation occurs on the battery’s plates and acts as a physical barrier between the plates and the electrolyte. The effect of this barrier is that the battery cannot create power under load and is difficult to recharge. Typically batteries in this condition when charged using a traditional battery charger will show being fully charged in a very short period of time despite the fact that they are still flat. This effect is referred to as a surface charge. Recovery Plus is able to overcome this barrier through a high Voltage charge on the battery. The higher Voltage forces the sulphation to breakdown enabling a normal charger to take place. The MC121045 checks the battery for sulphation when the charger is first turned on. If sulphation is detected the battery begins the 4 hour Recovery Plus stage otherwise it goes straight into c’Logix charging. Circuit Protection The MCU chip ensures that the battery charger clips can not be accidentally short circuited, this also provides the battery charger with polarity protection, so even if you connect the battery incorrectly the charger will not be damaged. Finally unlike traditional battery chargers the toroidal transformer can not be overloaded as the output current on the battery charger is current limited during all stages. All this adds up to give you confidence of safe charging. |
